The Exorcist

With THE EXORCIST, William Friedkin (THE FRENCH CONNECTION, THE BOYS IN THE BAND) rivals Hitchcock for heart-stopping terror in this deeply horrifying masterpiece that led to religious boycotts, fainting and nauseous audiences, and a commercial success that forever changed Hollywood. Linda Blair plays Regan, a 12-year-old girl possessed by the devil. After exhausting all the options of science, psychology, and medicine, Regan's mother (Ellen Burstyn) realizes the supernatural nature of her daughter's condition and resorts to a religious solution, turning to Father Karras (Jason Miller) for an exorcism. Aided by the mysterious Jesuit exorcist Father Merrin (Max von Sydow), Karras must confront not only supernatural phenomena but also his own inadequate faith and displaced guilt over his mother's recent death, a personal torment Regan uses to manipulate him, but with disturbing results. Like THE GODFATHER before it and JAWS soon after, THE EXORCIST enjoyed tremendous commercial and critical success that directly transformed Hollywood into the blockbuster behemoth of American culture.

Crazy, scary movie - The Exorcist Reviews

okay, this movie has been reviewed a lot already, and you've probably already read alot of what people say about this movie. whatever, this movies too good to ignore! I think i might have the crazy symptom Regen has, she's basically taken over by satan. and if you plan on seeing this movie, watch "the version you've never seen" it has all the added scenes:basically the directors cut. .....scary ***** wierd things begin to happen in the Whatshername's house, and its just called off as a coincidence at first. but then the mothers twelve year old daughter Regen starts acting...like she just hit puberty in maximum overdrive! talk about peeing in your pants, pukingup green crap (referring to puking during pregnancy, and jumping uncontrollably up and down on the bed (*wink wink*) but its gets funkier, she starts to cuss at people she loves, like when she said "F*** me!" to her own mom, and stabbed herself with a crucifix in her youknowwhere. the thing so scary about this movie is the idea that your soul can be taken over by satan, and it can happen to anyone! the first half hour will bore you though, all it is is weak conversations with elderly siblings, but it does seem to set up the story for you, and the little things in life make all the big things worth while.

You better cross yourself - The Exorcist Reviews

My parents talked about it all the time. I was a little boy trying to imagine everything they were saying about the movie. I grew up a little and I wathed it. BIG MISTAKE! I had constant nightmares, real paranoia about demonic possessions for years. I?m 30 years old and it still creeps me out. Satan is really on this picture that is the best horror movie ever made. Just look to Regan?s face(Linda Blair) when she?s looking to father karras before she vomits to his face and you will see what I?talking about. I own the dvd,( I?m a movie maniac, specially horror movies )but I won?t watch it alone, that?s for sure.

The exorcist - The Exorcist Reviews

I believe that this was the first horror/suspense movie that I was introduced to as a kid. My father called me into the living room while he was putting the tape in that he recorded. I could barely speak as I continued to stare at the screen without blinking. A 12-year old girl (Linda Blair) somehow becomes possessed by the devil, and her mother (Ellen Burstyn) calls Father Karras (Jason Miller) and Father Merrin (Max Von Sydow) for an exorcism. The beginning starts out slow, then switched to what the audience was waiting for. This is a classic movie with a thrilling twist.
